A plastic fork mould is a production tool for disposable cutlery manufacturers that need high output, repeatable shape and stable product strength. Although a fork looks simple, the mould must control thin ribs, tine detail, handle stiffness, flow balance, cooling and ejection across many cavities.
For buyers, the main value of a plastic fork mould is not only the first sample. The mould must keep fork weight, edge quality and dimensional consistency stable during long production runs.
Cavity count is one of the first decisions. Higher cavity counts can increase output, but they also require better runner balance, cooling control and machine matching. A mould with too many cavities for the available injection machine may create short shots, uneven filling or unstable cycles.
Gate position and runner design affect how resin reaches the handle, neck and fork tines. The mould should fill the part quickly without creating weak spots, flow marks or excessive flash. For disposable cutlery, small defects can affect packing, user comfort and product strength.
Cooling layout has a direct effect on cycle time and fork straightness. Uneven cooling can create bending, sink marks or inconsistent tine shape. Ejection must release the fork without stress marks or deformation, especially around thin handle areas and tine tips.
Buyers should ask the mould supplier how cavity balance, cooling channels, venting and ejection will be inspected during design and trial. Sampling should check fork weight, bending resistance, tine definition, surface finish, cycle time and cavity-to-cavity consistency.
Disposable forks are commonly produced with PP, PS or other food-service materials depending on stiffness, cost and market requirements. Recycled or alternative materials may need different processing conditions, so resin choice should be confirmed before final mould design.
If the buyer wants lightweight forks, stronger premium cutlery or a custom handle shape, those goals should be discussed early. Small geometry changes can affect flow length, cavity pressure, cooling time and demolding stability.
A plastic fork mould needs regular cleaning, inspection and wear control because small cavity damage can quickly appear on high-volume cutlery products. Maintenance access, spare inserts, hot runner service and polishing requirements should be part of the supplier discussion.
